The seeds that have germinated are doing well--bell peppers, broccoli, dwarf Siberian kale, eggplant, tomato, onion, quinoa, edamame, and stevia. I just separated out the bell peppers and, with crossed fingers, I'm hoping they bounce back from the shock and have enough room to keep growing until our nights get a bit warmer.
The seeds that I'm having trouble with are:
- Densuke Watermellon (Japanese);
- Rosemary;
- Golden California Wonder Peppers;
- Pepperocini; and
- Orange Sun Peppers.
I've also started two herbs: Cilantro and Dill. I've got the Dill outside in a pot. The Cilantro is inside. I'm hoping to give it a jump start.
Others I've started outside in pots are Little Finger Carrots and Short and Sweet Carrots, which I've planted in individual planter barrels. I grew them inside but shocked them by hardening them off too quickly. They all died so this is my second attempt. I'm keeping them outside and letting them decide when it's safe to germinate.
My last garden challenge is peanuts. I read an article on Mother Earth News that gave great general information, including starting the seeds (or are they considered beans?) inside in peat pots. This will give them a kick-start before moving them to the garden around Memorial Day. I've started ten Tennessee Red Valencia and so far eight have sprouted in a mater of five days. I've added a couple of great shots in the gallery below. Enjoy!
